Langhe

Langhe & Roero are two territories famous for their vineyards and wines. Located between the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, the beautiful hilly landscapes of this area are delimited by the rivers Tanaro, Belbo, Bormida di Millesimo and Bormida di Spigno.

The Langhe region is covered with meadows, vineyards, hazel groves and chestnut woods and takes its name from the Piedmontese term Langa, which indicates particular hills with heights between 400 -Low Langa (Bassa langa)- and 900 metres –High Langa (Alta langa)-.

On the other hand, the Roero region extends to the left of the river Tanaro and takes its name from the Lords who dominated this territory for a long time. In the eyes of the visitor, Roero may appear divided into two main areas: the western part, characterized by a plateau and the eastern part, formed by a maze of hills.

On June 22nd, 2014, during the 38th World Heritage Committee in Doha, Qatar, the vineyard landscape of Langhe and Roero, along with Monferrato, was officially recognized as one of the World Heritage Sites by Unesco.

Among the many beautiful places worth visiting are Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba (the capital of Langhe), Bra (the Baroque city home to Slow Food), the High Langa (with its fascinating woods and hazel groves and its numerous varieties of cheeses), the Low Langa (famous for its fine wines and truffles).
