Meet your guide in Alba, then set off for a panoramic tour of Langhe. The Barolo hills will be your first stop: there you will enjoy a guided tour and wine tasting at a selected wine cellar, learning all about the production techniques and culture linked to Barolo wine.
Afterwards, you will move to La Morra, a village famous for its picturesque "belvedere" (panoramic viewpoint), which offers a stunning view of the vineyards of Bassa Langa (Low Langa), including the silhouettes of the castles built on top of these magical hills.
Because of the wonderful view you can get from La Morra, which really is of incomparable beauty, the village is also known as “balcone delle Langhe”, that is “Balcony of Langhe”.
Your guide will take you for a stroll to show you the colourful Cappella del Barolo (Barolo Chapel), a deconsecrated church located among the vineyards, and the wonderful cedar of Lebanon, a centuries-old tree which had been planted by the Counts Falletti and has been a reference point for the local inhabitants for over 150 years.
Enjoy a typical Langhe menu at a local restaurant.
After lunch, your guide will take you on a drive through the small villages situated within the production area of Barolo D.O.C.G. to reach Grinzane Cavour. There you will visit the Castle of Grinzane Cavour: an imposing medieval manor built in brick. The castle includes a central Tower, which was home to the wine cellars, the kitchens with ceilings decorated with grotesques and the Sala delle Maschere (“Masques Hall”). The Sala delle Maschere was named so because of its ceiling, which, during the Renaissance, was decorated with panels featuring the guests expected to attend the marriage of the politician Pietrino Belli, among which there might have been Charles V of Spain.
In a wing of the castle is the bedroom of Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour and statesman, who was mayor of Grinzane for 8 years and during the Risorgimento chose the castle as his residence.
Your guide will then show you the Ethnographic Museum and the Torre dei Mestieri (“Tower of Crafts”), which will give you a glimpse into Langhe’s history and the relations this land had with the rest of Italy over time. Your tour of the Castle will end with the visit of the Regional Wine Shop (Enoteca Regionale) of Piedmont: the first Regional Wine Shop in Italy which safeguards and promotes the history of our wines.
The last stop of the day will be to some wine cellars of the area where you will enjoy lovely wine tastings matched with typical Piedmontese products.
End of tour.
