THE CANAVESE AREA
Our homeland. In our grandparents’ day, this mostly agricultural area was designated to the cultivation of hemp and because of this firmly rooted activity it was named Canavese (after “canapa” = hemp). Its medieval history was greatly influenced by that of the nearby Aosta Valley. Don’t miss the tour of its beautiful castles!
One of the new provinces of Piedmont, Biella is known for its high concentration of textile factories and related outlet stores. The upper part of the delightful well-preserved old town centre can also be reached through a cable railway, while the lower part of the old town has been partly replaced by new buildings.
THE LANZO VALLEYS
The Lanzo Valleys are a group of three valleys belonging to the Graian Alps in Piedmont, located between the Orco Valley (Valle dell’Orco) to the north and the Susa Valley (Valle di Susa)to the south. They are named after the small town of Lanzo Torinese, which is situated on an ancient glacial moraine at the end of the valleys. They are crossed by several streams, which flow into the Stura di Lanzo River.
